Safe Sport
Purpose of Safe Sport:
SUSA Swim Team is committed to creating an abuse-free, safe, healthy and positive environment for all of our members. To that end, we participate in the US Center for Safe-Sport and USA Swimming's Safe Sport Club Recognition Program. We believe that participation:
- Reinforces a culture of safety and respect,
- Builds trust with athletes and parents, and
- Demonstrates leadership in our sport.

How Parents Can Take the Safe Sport Mini-Class:
Swimming parents can take the Safe Sport training through USA Swimming by following these steps:
- Log in to your USA Swimming Account. Make sure your swimmers are listed under your account. This is how USA Swimming track's our team's parent completion rate for the course.
- Click this link: USA Swimming or go to university.usaswimming.org -- Log in to your account if prompted.
- Scroll to find the "Parent's Guide to Misconduct in Sport"
The training takes from 15-25 minutes. You should receive an emailed Certificate of Completion as proof of training. Keep a copy for your records.
The training is good for 2 years but will need to be renewed each time SUSA renews our Safe Sport Recognition.
For Athletes 18 & Over:
Swimmers 18 and older must complete the Athlete Protection Training for adult athletes. The training is free and must be completed annually.
To access the APT, swimmers should
- Log in to their USA Swimming account and
- Navigate to the Education tab.
The training is in four parts -- Safe Sport Trained, Refresher 1, Refresher 2 and Refresher 3. Athletes are automatically enrolled in the appropriate training.
It is crucial for swimmers to complete the APT within 30 days of their 18th birthday to retain their membership on the team and be eligible to compete in meets.
